United Way of Randolph County was founded in 1956 as the
United Fund of Greater Asheboro. The first campaign goal was only $36,000, but
with Mr. T. Henry Redding serving as the chair, over $56,000 was raised to
benefit 10 agencies. Since then, the citizens of Randolph County have come a
very long way allowing the United Way of Randolph County to invest over $25
million to the community over the past 50 years.
As the needs of the community have changed, United Way has
adapted to meet those needs. In 1981, the United Fund of Greater Asheboro became
United Way of Randolph County to reflect a commitment to countywide service.
Today, United Way of Randolph County supports health and human services to all
areas of the county through the funding of 25 agencies and 40 programs. This
broad network of services supports one out of every two residents of Randolph
County through United Way’s initiatives which: help children and youth
succeed, strengthen and empower families, promote health and self-sufficiency
and support independent living.

element of our success, from phenomenal leadership at the board level to
campaign chairs who have forged forward in pursuit of that campaign goal. This
